GOODS TRAFFIC PROSPECTS. WELLINGTON, December 5. Although it will b ( i some time be fore the newly laid portion of tho recently* opened Stratford Alain Trunk railway will be ready for taking over by the Railway Department, the Gov eminent Railways Board has decided to work goods traffic over the new route as from Afonday, December 12,” stated Air Sterling, Chairman olf the Board, in a statement to the press, today. “Before the new line is ready to be worked a.s an integral part of the system, und f, r a direct committee of the Board, a considerable amount of work will have ’to b e done by tho Railway Department at Stratford and Okahu kara Junctions, and there is still much to bo done on the Public Works section of the line. It is not, therefore possible for a regular passenger service to be inaugurated immediately. “In conclusion,” said Air Sterling. “I cannot more strongly emphasise tha r the completion of this line was regard ed by the Board as being a work that could bo justified only, if the line, when completed, wore to bo assured of full support by the public, and thp Board trusts that, as the line is now avail able for transport of goods, the people concerned will see that the fullest possible use is made of it.’’
