HURRICANE DISASTER
IN THE BAHAMAS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received September 20 at 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, September 19. The Secretary for the Colonics has received a telegram from the Governor of the Bahama Islands, reporting that a hurricane swept the colony on the sth of September. High winds were experienced over a wide area, reaching an unprecedented velocity in Abaci Island, where the town of Greenturtle Cay was demolished, and Hopetown was partially’ demolished. Bluff Point and two other settlements were practically ruined. The casualties were fourteen killed, while between sixty and seventy were wounded, the former including five who were drowned by a tidal wave. The medical position is well in hand, but thc Government and private buildings have suffered severe damage.
