HIS CONQUEST OF MALARIA. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 17. When th,, late Sir Ronald Ross entered the Indian medical service in malaria constituted the greatest danger to residents an tropical climates. The year before, in 1880, Dr. Lavoran, a French physician, had identified the malarial germs, and Sir Patrick Alanson had suggested then carriage by mosquitoes. It remained for Sir R. Ross, in the face of discouragement and ridicule, and after long, patient research into, the malaria of birds ami human beings, to identify the Anopheles Mosquito as a carrier. In 1899. after a visit. West Africa, Sir R. Ross became Pre fessor of Tropical Medicines at the University of Liverpool. Visits bv him followed to malarious districts al ! over the world, including Panama, Mauritius and Cyprus.
