On Sunday, at the Greymouth OM Peoples’ Home, Mr Thomas Brown, on the occasion of his 101st birthday was tendered a celebration, when more than sixty friends gathered to tender then congratulations to the centenarian. Mr Brown, who is a native of Denmark, is one thp. earliest gold miners on the Coast. He arrived here in the early ’sixties and settled at Welshmen’s, near Marsden. Tie followed th P occupation of a miner until age forced his retirement. Speeches wer e made by thosa present, all referring in eugolistic terms to the guest of honour, and congratulating him on th e great age he has attained The funeral took place yesterday afternoon of the youth. Bruce Vincent Harris aged 17, who died rather suddenly at Westport. The funeral left the residence at Dunollie, of deceased’s parents, Mr and Mrs Jas. Harris, at 2 p.m., and was numerous y attended. A Rationalist service was read at the grave by Mr J. Kennedy.
