BRIDGE SET AFIRE
Near Stockton Mine (From Our Own Correspondent). WESTPORT, September 18. What might have prevented work for a long tim 0 at Stockton mine was a fire discovered at 2.30 o ’clock on Saturday afternoon, at the base of the trestles of the bridge at Stockton, known as Murnm’s Bridge. These trestles are 160 feet deep, aud Air Jose, a resident, noticed, thorn burning. An investigation showed there was a quantity of coal at the seat of the fire, and the trestles were alight. The discovery was made just i n time as the fire wa s put out before any great damage had been done. The bridge I connects with the. main haulage road of the mine. I t is evident that somebody tried to destroy 'he structure.
