C. Ring, owner of the three-year-old colt Bronze Eagle, yesterday I received a message from a well-known rac'ng man in the United States, asking him to put a price on the colt. Dr. Ring has cabled quoting a price. It is understood that the colt is required for the next Agua Caliente Handicap.

C.J.C. Stakes Cut FOR G.N. MEETING. CHRISTCHURCH, May 3. The Committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club at the monthly meeting to-day decided upon reductions in stakes and alterations in conditions for the Grand National meeting. A general reduction in stakes was made, the only exceptions being the Grand National Steeplechase, which remains as last year’s figure of £lOOO, and the Hunt Cup Steeplechase on the second day, which has been raised from £l5O to £l6O. The total reduction amounts to £l2OO. and the total amount to be distributed will be £5.800. The Hunters’ Hurdles, hitherto the opening event of the meeting, has been changed to an open flat race of £l6O over six furlongs. The Winter Cup has been reduced from £5OO to £400; the Beaufort Steeplechase from £350 to £300; the Grand National Hurdles from £750 to £600; and the Lincoln Steeplechase from £350 to £3OO. The Committee decided to make no alteration at present for future classic events, but to reserve the right to reduce the stakes not more than 25 p<*r cent, prior to the date of the first forfeit.
