When the regrettable lire occurred, the matter of renovating the Chambers was taken in hand by the Now Zealand Fire Insurance Coy., with head office at Christchurch, which heiu the fire risk. An adjuster came from Greymouth and, for the Con:[pany, made all arrangements for the Restoration. The Council had not any say- in the matter at all. Regarding the renewal of the furniture, the Company paid the Council a lump sum tor the loss, and tenders were invited ,by the Council for the furniture rc Iquired, and the lowest tenders (two; 'accepted in each case, I am etc., | M.
