While travelling on a busy road in Hertfordshire, a high-powered car drew alongside, and signalled her to stop, indicating something was wrong. A man approached, and whilp Lad) Portman’s chauffer investigated at the rear of the car, the man grabbed a case containing jewellery, valued fit £BOOO, jujnped into his own ear and rapidly disappeared. The police subsequently arrested a Londoner, Isaac Bear. CALCUTTA, May 1. Mr Douglas, district Magistrate at Midnapore, Western Bengal, who was shot with a revolver and seriously wounded by a youth, has 'died of' his injuries.
