BOMBED AT SHANGHAI At Military Demonstration MANY NOTABLES INJURED. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn). (Received April 29 a t 10.30 p.m.) SHANGHAI. April 29. There was a military review held at Honkew Park in North Shanghai, in honour of the Japanese Emperor’s birthday, in which ten thousand Japanese troops participated. During '.the review bombs were thrown on a platform ou which were .seated the principal Japanese officials. Shigemitsu, the Japanese Minister to China, was seriously injured as also were Murai, the Japanese Consul-Gen-eral; General Shirakawa (the Com-mander-in-Chief of the Japanese Military Forces); Admiral Nomura (the Japanese Naval Commander-in-Chief); Admiral Shimada, Major-General Toshiro, and Kawabata. a civilian intelligence officer. Shigemitsu and Murai were both severely injured. Kawabata is not expected to live. The Japanese surrounded the park, □nd prevented the thousands of spectators from leaving. Seven persons were arrested, including a foreign park-keeper, one Chinese and five Koreans. One of the latter was nearly lynched by an indignant mob of Japanese. Two bombs were thrown while the company were singing the Japanese National Anthem. TOKIO, April 29. The Japanese Minister Shigemitsu was critically wounded, while General Shira,kawa t Admiral Nomura, and Murai were badly wounded by the bombs that were thrown a!t the new park at Hongkew, Shanghai.
