ELOPEMENT ADVERTISED. (Aus. ft N.Z. Cable Aasu). LONDON, March 13. Mr C. Hanbury, a Conservative member of the House of Commons, and his wife, chartered an aeroplane at Croydon o n Saturday, and flew in pursuit °f their son, who had gone to Gretna Green to marry Joan Eve, grand-daughter of Mr Justice Eve. The aeroplane landed at Blackpool, owing to darkness, and the parents took the train to Gretna Green, where the famous blacksmith refused to marry the coup e, as they had not resided in Scotland for the requisite three weeks. The Hanburys went to Glasgow, arriving by the same train as the young people, and brought them back to" London. On arrival, the station was besieged by reporters and press photo graphers. Mr a Hanbury later explained that the parents of both youngsters objected to the engagement owing to their youth, her son being only 17| and Joan Eve is not seventeen. They have been friends since childhood. Their engagement will be announced later. LONDON, ABT EXHIBITIONS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 12. The French Art Exhibition at Burlington House, which has been visited by 340,000 people in the last two months, will close this evening, and workmen will immediately begin re moving the pictures. The work of re moving the famous works of art will be completed within' eleven days, when the pictures for the Royal Academy ’« Summer Exhibition will be hung in Burlington House. Sir Malcolm Campbell, who arrived at Southampton yesterday, on his return from Daytona, where he created a world’s land speed record of 253.9 miles per hour, left by road for London early this afternoon to attend *<n official reception at the Royal Automobile Club.
