Mr and Mrs N. Parkin of Gerakli are visiting relatives in Cobden.

Mr and Mrs W. Toomey will arrive this afternoon from Christehureh.

Miss Millieent O’Grady will arrive by this afternoon’s express from Christchurch. Mr and Mrs E. Rosewall will return by this evening’s express, after visiting the North Island. Mr ,1. L. Rourke, Boddytown, is confined to his home with an attack of pleurisy. After completing twenty years' service in the detective office in Auckland, Chief-Detective A. Hammond is to retire as from the middle of August. Mr William Greenwood of the Public Trust Office, Hastings, arrives today on a visit to his parents Mr and Mrs A. Greenwood, Stratford street. Mr T. C. Brash has been appointed Government representative on the NewZealand Fruit Export Control Board, in place of Mr Dennis Neal, who has resigned. Mrs N. Patrick (Auckland) and Miss Margaret Tennant (England) arrived from Christehureh yesterday, and later left on a visit to the Franz Josef Glacier. Guests at Bevington’s Hotel include Mr and Mrs R. Crompton (Suva, Fiji) Mr R. Perkins (Havana, Cuba). Mr A. J. Linney (Wellington), Air F. Jackson (Auckland), Mr J. L. Harrison (Christchurch), Mr J. S. Bradley (Christ church). Mr J. R. Robertson, of Wellington, has been appointed a member of the Government Railways Appeal Board. Messrs W. Hayward and J. A. The death has occurred at the Ol< People’s Home, Greymouth, of anothm of the pioneer gold miners of the Wesl Coast in the person of Air Christian Nielson, at the very advanced age o! 95 years. A native of London, l.hlate Mr Nielson leaves no relatives it, New Zealand. A single man, he hafor the last eight years been an m mate of the Old People’s Home. He was in engaged in gold mining foi many years and is said to have been the first nian to find gold at Nelson Creek. The funeral will take plac«' this morning at the Karoro Cemetery.
