CYCLING

(Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, February 18. At a meeting of the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union, the Chairman (Mr W. J. Walter) stated that a report had been published, to the effect that the Taranaki Centre had been granted the Australasian road championship. He considered that, if the report was correct, it was unfair to Canterbury, as the North Canterbury Centre conducted the most, important race in tho Dominion. As a member oj; the Executive of the New Zealand Union, and also as a member of the New Zealand Cycling Board of Control, he had not boon consulted regarding the alloting of the title. Mr Walter stated that the Board of Control was a useless body, as it had no rules. The Secretary wan instructed to write to the New Zealand Union, re questing information as to which body granted the championship to Taranaki.
