TO-MOEROW.’S NOTABLE GATHERING The annual meeting of the Karoro Sports Club will be held at Karoro tomorrow, when a £2OO programme will be run off, before, it is anticipated, one of the largest such gatherings held on the West Coast for a long time. The wide and varied programme caters for axemen, sprinters, cyclists, school children and dancers. Besides the £2OO offered in prizes there is also a large, number of trophies and other prizes. Messrs Kennedy Bros, have kindlydonated the use of a bus free to take children requiring to go to the sports, and this bus will leave the Greymouth Post Office at 12.30 p.m. Other buses for the convenience of patrons will also run. The sports programme will commence at noon. Arrangements have also been completed to enable the gathering to be conducted along the most efficient lines, and events will be got off with a minimum of delay. Refreshments will be obtainable on the grounds, whilst the sideshows conducted by the committee will provide ample amusement.

The nominations received for the various events are very gratifying indeed to the club, who are now assured that they were not throwing money away in improving their prizes. All that is required is a fine day for the success of the meeting to excel that of last year, although things at present are not as bright as they were then.

Over forty nominations have been received for the £75 underhand chop, whilst there are 35 in the upright chop, and 32 in the maiden chop. The cream of West Coast axemen is included in the nominations, there being also competitors from as far away as Southland, whilst nominations have also been received from Blenheim and Karamea and the surrounding districts. Good white pine logs have been secured for the various events and they have been hosed consistently by’ the committee since being cut. The logs for the maiden chop will be rigged by the committee. The Club has purchased thirty sets of Tasmanian steel braces, and these will be used in the rigging °f the logs, whilst it is also possible the logs will be rigged in read iness for the Upright Chop. - Much time and labour will be saved by the innovation of the steel brace.

Among the sprinting events, for which excellent nominations have been received, there are some prominent, run ners, including visitors from Canterbury, Wiestport and from all over the West Coast. There are 29 entrants in some of the events.

The Highland dancing classes have been well patronised. There will be schools relay races for boys and girls The boys this time will race for medals and the Perotti Shield, and the girts for trophies and a new shield presented to the Club by its supporters, and valued at £lO 10s. Tn addition to the valuable money prizes the trophies donated by the Pax Axe Co. and Plumb Axe Co. are very fine trophies. Given favourable conditions, the Karoro Club should to-morrow eclipse any previous meeting held. CYCLING HANDICAPS.
