OPERA HOUSE. “GUILTY HANDS.” C:in a man commit the undiscovorable minder ? Th : s is the question that is answered in “Guillv Hands,’’ a MetroI Goldwyn-Mayer picture tl'.at will be how (| at the Opera House to-night and Saturday, and at the matinee Saturday, in a way that leaves the matter open to some doubts but the author of the story has cleverly led np to an amazing climax that would suit either a'nswer. Those who like the powerful acting of Lionel Bar.ymore will readily visualise how well he fits into the character of a fond father, formerly State Attorney, and now successful legal practitioner, who in his day has scut as many men to the electric chair as he has kept from it. (’ailed to prepare a new will for a rich libertine, he discovers that it is his own daughter whom the foul-living millionaire plans to marry. The girl is blinded and hypnotised by Gordon Rich (Allan Mow bra'-), ami as Richard Grant, Ba’rymore enacts the pa t of the stern father, who will let nothing stand h's way to save th? girl’s happiness. Rich lives on an island in the Atlantic, ten miler from anywhere, and his palatial home is the scene of a party when father and daughter arrive. Alade aware of the shameful life of his client th ough the details of the changed will, Grant, over a pile of photographs of women to whom he is to pay hush money, learns of the death of a sixteen, year-old girl who threw herself out of a forty-second storey window rather than yield to Rich, and then and there calmly tells him that he will kill him before h? allows the wedding. That night there is a storm, in the midst of wh : ch there are innumerable weird and eerie happenings, and Rich is found dead with a pistol clutched in his hand. To tell the ending would be to spoil a dramatic and remarkable story. Madge Evans as the daughter and Kay Francis as the last woman Rich has discarded, have attractive parts. The supports are ’excellent.
