RUNANGA NOTES

'Our Own Correspondent.) 5 Owing to the continual spell of dry weather, it has been decided to distribute water to the residents. The Borough lorry commences to-day to deliver sufficient for drinking and cooking purposes only. All those who arc in urgent need are requested to apply to the Town Clerk, when their quota will be supplied in turn. The gravel pit at the Eight Mile is nearly ready to be utilised. A bin to hold six yards, and a chute three chains long have been nearly completed. This face of gravel is of first-class quality, and will be a great acquisition to the borough. An aeroplane was seen flying over Point Elizabeth on Sunday morning. It flew very low along the beach, appari ently looking for a landing ground. Un-1 ' fortunately the tide was in, or other- I wise a perfect landing could have been . I made. May Day celebrations passed off very quietly here. All of the mines were on I holiday, with the exception of two or ■ three co-operative parties, whose actions came in for a great deal of criticism. It is a pity that these individuals > could not at least have one day off to celebrate such an important occasion. J Various articles ami a sum of money j were apparently stolon from the scone of the fire which happened recently. | This was a most despicable act. The I Oakley family were very heavy losers as it was, without having such a mean [ thing inflicted upon them. . Dr. Meade, who is now on holidays, 1 is being reloived by Dr Kimbell. | Mrs Purnell is affain a patient at the Grey River Hospital awaiting an opera- | I tion.
