(From Our Own Correspondent). WESTPORT, September 10. < Messrs Gallagher and Miller left for I Greymouth this morning. ‘ Mrs Erskine left to-day for Grey- j mouth. , * Miss M. Burgoyne is on a visit, to • Westport. ‘ Mr A. Larsen, of the local staff of the Bank of New South Wales, has received notice of his transfer to Christchurch. The following passengers left for , Wellington by the Komata, yesterday: | —Messrs W. G. Fairhall, E. Kellighen, I E. Wright. W. McCrae, A. O’Brien, J. Thomas, A. Rofferty, Gray, W. T. McDermott, Cadie; Mesdames Sawyers and girl, Clementon and girl, Cowan and infant; Misses Jarman, B. Mathias, Winstanley. A Westport car yesterday proceeded round the Karamea Bluff, it being l the first private car to do this since I the earthquake. The schools of the district have resumed after the term holidays. At the general meeting of the Buller Hockey Association, there were present, Messis Sara, (chair), Pain, Bowden, Naylor, Misses Bowden and 1 Stevens. It was decided that the 1 Marlborough Hockey Association be written to re challenge for the Pope Shield, and asking them tn suggest a suitable date, ami that the Hockey Sub-Association be notified the Buller Association is issuing .a challenge, and asking them to submit names of players willing to take part in game and pay their own expenses. The Rambler Club was declared winners of the Association Cup, and Elite Rose Bowl, the United Club winners of the President’s Cup and Wesley Club winners of lite Stephen Memorial Cup. That United (one year), St John’s (two years) and Westport (one year) be written to, drawing their attention to their outstanding affiliation fees, and requesting payment of same, was decided.

The Westport Fire Brigade held their, monthly meeting on Tuesday evennigk Superintendent F. Morgan presided}, and a full membership was present. Two resignations of members were received with regret, and the secretary was instructed to thank the members for their past services to the Brigade. Sub-Lieutenant C. Callaghan was elected as Treasurer to the Brigade. During the course of the meeting a squad of firemen under the charge of Sub-Lieutenant Jones were called out. to cope with a gorse fire raging in Upper Queen Street. The officers and the men of the Brigade were complimented for the splendid save made at the fire at the Victoria Hotel recently. Messrs G. Phibbs and F. Harfort were elected firemen into the Brigade by ballot. It was stated that six men are now sleeping in the beclrooms of the station. The Superintendent was instructed to bring under the notice of the Fire Board several requirements for the station. The question of training for the Ross, and yew Zealand Demonstrations was ‘ully discussed.
