WHILE MINERS ARE LOCKED OUT. N.Z. SUPPLIES CHEAP. MELBOURNE, April 25. Because of the New South Wales coal stoppage, the Victorian consumers,, including gas consumers, have arranged to import big supplies from New Zealand and England. The steamer Kaikorai has already brought a large cargo from New Zealand, and the Kaitoke i s due shortly with another four thousand tons. South African mines are also making bold bids to enter the Australian trade. The price of New Zealand and English coals is known to be several shillings lower than the cost of cargoes shipped from Newcastle. Importers state that if the proposals made by Mr Bavin, Premier of New South Wales, had been accepted, the necessity to patronise overseas firms would not have arisen.
