(From Our Correspondent.) REEFTON. April 24. The funeral of ihe late Joseph Gardener took place this afternoon, the cortege moving from the Southern Cross Hotel to the Church of the Sacred Heard, a large number of mourners attending. Rev Fr Ginisty officiated at the. church and graveside. JOCKEY CLUB. A meeting of the Commit.ee of the Reefton Jockey Club was held last evening. Mr E. W. Spencer, President, in the chair. A circulare from the Egmont Racing Club asked the Club’s support for a remit to rescind the 'broadcasting prohibition passed by the N.Z. Racing Conference.—No action was taken. It was resolved that the Reefton Jockey Club was in favour of using all possible means to induce Parliament to repeal the existing hampering racing legislation. The statement of accounts in connection with th e recent autumn meeting disclosed a substantial profit, and this was received and adopted. The President thanked members of the Committee generally for assistance and hearty co-operation in conducting what was one of the Club’s most successful meetings. Members replied, complimenting the President on his untiring efforts in the interests of the Club, contending that th e success of the meeting was largely due to the interest taken in the Club’s affairs by the President. The President was authorised to exercise the Club’s vote at the forthcoming County elec- • ion. The passing of accounts concluded the meeting.
