EXPLOSION IN COOKING RANGE. NAPIER, April 17. Mrs Joseph Sheehan was injured in arm and leg by an explosion in a cooking range, the front of which was blown out. It is suspected ‘hat there was dynamite in the eoat. CROSSING COLLISION. WAIMATE, April 17. A level crossing accident was narrowly averted When the 8.25 a.tn. goods train ran into a ear driven by Mrs P. J. Foley, at the Morven crossing. Mrs Foley saw the train at the last minute and half turned the car from the line, when the engine struck the rear of the car, eompleteing the ti rn. The ear was somewhat battered at the rear, but the occupants, Mrs Foley and her infant, were unhurt. TEACHER’S LODGINGS IN QUESTION. AUCKLAND, April 17. Stories of the alleged hardships suffered by a teacher in an isolated part cf Coromandel Peninsula, were refuted at a meeting of the Auckland Education Board to-day, when a letter was received from a district resident.

The teacher, at the last meeting, had applied for a transfer, because '“the home provided wasn’t fit for habitation, and he had to live in two dirty rooms with a rusty wire mattress and overcoat for his bed.” The Board then decided to write to the Education Department that a shanty be erected alongside the school. The resident states that the teacher was offered a: good lodging. It was decided, to-day, that the nd visory inspector be sent to the district to investigate.
