FATALITIES.
CAR IN FLAMES. MAN FATALLY INJURED. SYDNEY, December 16. Two men, Horace Pike and William Hughes, were hurled from a car near Junec. The car was burned, and Hughes’ clothes caught fire as he lay wounded on the roadway. He died in hospital. Pike is not expected to recover. A woman companion, Pauline Case, was less seriously injuxid. TAITA GORGE SMASH. EVIDENCE OF DRIVER S SOBRIETY. WELLINGTON, December 15. At the inquest concerning the death uf Joseph O’Neill, the victim of the Taita Gorge accident; Sergent, driver />f the taxi ,said he had not been paid for the journey, but tho meter was registering at ’cast uij to the time of the first accident. He could not swear it was registering after that. Dr Parr had come to the scene of the accident, and subsequently gave witness a certificate as to his condition. Accused was in a very intoxicated condition. Sergeant McHolni said Sergent called at the Lofwer Hutt police station to report the accident, early in the morning. Sergent was sober . when witness saw him, and witness could not find any signs of liquor on him. Later in the day witness saw Dr. Parr who certified as co thei goberily of Sergent after the accident. YOUTH KILLED BY CAR. AUCKLAND, December 11. Hugh Alexander Caiumock, aged 16, was knocked down and. killed by a motor car at Westfield at 10 o’clock last night. His parents reside nt Onekunga. OYCDIST killed by bus. CHRISTCHURCH, December 16. Alexander Swanson, of Leeston, aged 33, married, was killed on the road a mile north of Dunsandil, on Saturday. He was on a bicycle when he was struck and run down by n motor bus. Death was instantaneous. FATAL CAR SMASH . WAIMATE, December 14. William Alfred Charles Broad, aged 22, single, a grocer’s assistant, of Geraldine, "was killed in a collision with a motor lorry, four miles from Waimate, at seven o’clock last evening Deceased was driving a. car containing his father and mother, and I was returning from a bowling match at Waimate. The car struck the lorry on a bridge, continuing over the bridge., through a wire fence, and down a fourteen foot bank. Deceased’s, neck was broken. His mother received u broken collarbone, and his father severe facial injuries
