A PARISIAN SCANDAL

Poincare and Briand Involved (Australian & N.Z. Cable Assn). PARIS, December 7. The ' Hanau-Beloch scandal develops daily. Seven members of the Government, including M. Poincare M. Loueheur. M. Lecques, are now involvid through articles they arcalleged Io have contributed to the Gazette Du France, or the affiliated journal Gazette Des Nations. The paper “L’ Human ite” published the facsimile of a letter from a page of the Gazette Du France written by Mr Poincare, and also charges leading newspapers with having sold space to Mme. Hanau to the value of nearly £2500 a month. This v.a* tilled, it says, with financial news supplied from the Gazette. There is no doubt that Mr Hanau cleverly exploited articles of general topics written by distinguished peoph . but none except, the Communists believe that these writers knew that they were being exploited. The Magistrate thus far has received seven hundred complaints from all classes—humble 4olk. Government officials and social persons. The police continue to search the palatial offices. A previous cable stated that Marth * Hanau, known as Aladame Le Presidente. the financial wizard, and opcrat ing one of the most gigantic “get-rich-quick” schemes ever\ -devised, was arrested with her divorced husband, Lazaro Beloch. The news spread very rapidly, and panic stricken investors rushed to the sumptuous marble fronted offices from which Madame, with Beloch and a staff of two fifty. directed enormous operations. Among the victims were deputies jiiests, nuns, and widows of office’s. It is stated that th-> total involved is over a million sterling, but it was possible that the losses would amount to three and a-half millions. Madame, besides running rhe Gazette had formed five share investing companies and had four thousand agencies in France and abroad. MADAME’S SELF-ASSURANCE. (Received December 9 at 8 p.m.) PARIS. December 8. The warrant has been issued for the arrest of Pierre Audibert, Editor ox the Gazette du France, but has not been executed up to the present, because of his critical heart trouble. Aladame Hanau retains the sclf-as suranee that has made her one of the most remarkable women in France. When the investigators talk about the total liabilities, Aladame calmly insists that there must b c a separate balance sheet for each company. She even threatens that if her views are ignored, to wash hep hands of the whole affair. She is reputed to have been onee worth £640,000. Madame, who successively conducted a perfumery soap business, started the Gazette des Nations, and used articles and interviews with public men of all countries in order to give confidence to hei subscribers. Though a keen worker, she loved pleasure. She rose at seven o’clock and motored to the office, but at eleven at night could be seen at Montmartre, where she frequented two night establishments, and also a bar in the Rue Fontaine, where she was known as Madame Marthe, a generou" spender. „„„ 1 LATER.
