A statue to the late Mrs Pankhurst, the suffragette leader, is proposed by her admirers, who are to raise a fund of £2OOO for the purpose by subscription throughout the world. Mr A. G. Walker. sculptor of the Florence Nightingale statue, Waterloo Place, has completed a plaster sketch representing Mrs Pankhurst, hatless and attir ed in her favourite evening eoat, in which she appeared, on many plat forms. The site suggested is one eith er near the House of Commons, or at the end of Downing Street, the scene of many militant suffragist battles. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon of the . late Samuel Groom, and it was very largely attended by the friends of the deceased from all parts of the district, testifying to the high esteem in which he was held. The Masonic fraternity were present in large numbers, and prior t 0 the funeral they held a service at the Lodgeroom, in Tainui Street, at which there were present the officers and members of the following Lodges: Mark Masons, Royal Arch Chapter, Rose Croix.
