REEFTON NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, November 24. The funeral of the late Mr Jeremiah Casey took place this afternoon, a large number attending. The services at the Church of the Sacred Heart and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev Fr Ginistry. M r Rashley, of the Reefton . Post Office staff, returned to Reefton on Friday evening from Runanga. Mr R. Lythgoe, who has been on annual leave on a visit to his parents in Christchurch, returned to Reefton by Saturday evening’s express. Mrs W. Clarke, Oamaru, who has been on a visit to her daughter, Mrs H. Spencer, returned to Oamaru by Saturday's express. Mr Jas. R miner, formerly of the staff of the N.Z. Railways. Reefton, who has been on annual holidays in Reefton, returned by Saturday’s express. Miss J. Hune, who has been on a holiday visit to Christchurch, returned to Reefton yesterday. The construction of a travelling track t 0 Alexander Reef, via Stevenson’s Flat, was again brought up by Cr J. B. Auld at the meeting of the Inangahua County Council on Thure day. He stated that it was a crying shame that nothing so far had been done in this matter. The recent accident there showed the necessity for this work to be done immediately. This was endorsed by all the members, and the Council decided to urge the Mines Department to have the road started at once. Mr G. C. Black, M.P. for Motueka, wired Captain C. Coxall, of the Reefton Fire Brigade, on Friday, of his inability to attend the banquet on Saturday evening, stating: “Hava been called to Wellington on important business, which necessitates mo remaining over the week-end. Regret inability to attend your function. Wishing you every success.” The Springlands accommodation house at Maruia has been purchased by Mr W. Blackadder. The property adjoins the well known farm, which, with the rest of the valley lands, produces Isueh excellent lamb and mutton. Miss E. Stallard, who has been on a short visit to the North Island, has returned to Reefton. Miss D. Cadan, Sister in charge of the Waipukurau Hospital, is at present in Reefton on a visit to her aunt, Mrs Stallard. Messrs C. P. Mori and J. Auld left for Christchurch by Saturday morning’s express. There was a large attendance at the Reefton Ladies’ Hockey Club’s longnight dance at the Theatre Royal on Friday evening, including many visitors and a most enjoyable time was spent by all. Mr L. Robinson acted as M.C., and the music was supplied by the Excelsior orchestra.
