N.Z. CONFERENCE Opened Yesterday WELLINGTON, March ”7. The National Industrial Conference was opened to-day, Mr Coates i’residing. la his opening address th e Prime Minister said that the decisions would have far beaching effect upon the welfare of New Zealand. The occasion offered a unique opportunity, pointing the way to industrial pea.ee, ami progress, Care must be taken to see justice was done both to capita] and labour. Ho trusted that the country would greatly benefit by the decisions of the conference. YESTERDAY’S WORK. Wellington, March 27. At thi 1 Industrial Conference, the only Committee appointed was the Business Committee, consisting of Messrs Stirling, Williams and Bishop, and Messrs Glov. r, Mcßrine and Roberts. An address was delivered by Professor Murphy on the Arbitration System, ami a paper was read on behalf of the Labour Delegation. The Conference adjourned, at 3.40 p.m. until 10 a.m. to-morrow. Th? first business before the Conference to-morrow will be the consideration of the report of a Committee appointed to recommend a Chairman. Once the Chairman is appointed, the Conference can go ahead with the setting up of a group of Committees. A numbo of papers may be read also.
