KUMARA NOTES

(From Our Own Correspondent.) KL'MARA, March 21. Capt. J. Alt i.- arlunc, who represented Hie local Lriga.i e at the recent Eire Brigades’ Conference, returned to Kumara ou Tuesday. Air and Mrs Norman Kelly and family, much esteemed, residents of Kumara, have departed lor Greymouth. That they may be successful and prosperous in their new home is tile wish of their many friends here. ' Even in a disaster there is a certain sense of humour. At the recent lire a resident remembered that the key of his office would open the door of one of the doomed buildings. The dour was quickly opened, ami a good deal of valuable goods salvaged. When Hie fire was mastered, and he returned to the office he realisd that th e key had been left in the lock ami was in th burning debris. An hour later the key was recovered still in the lock, and shortly after it was again lit for active service, to open the office. Th. nominations for the races on Easter Aionday, which closed on Tuesday evening, are highly gratifying to the club. Nothing will be spare I to make the meeting pleasurable for visitors. The course ami grounds are receiving every attention, and the dub are hopeful of a very success lul meeting. A number of Kumara sports leave on Friday to attend the races at Westport. Owner W.
