ANNUAL MEETING. AUCKLAND, March 21. The annual conference of the New Zealand Branch of the British Red Cross Society, and the Order of St. John, opened to-day., Brigadier General Champain, Secretary-General, attending, and being accorded a civic reception. The question of securing autonomy for the Dominion Red Cross, which would thus have separate representation at international conferences, was ecnsidered. and it was agreed to send a statement of the history of the Red Cross here to the various branches, whose views regarding alterations of name, would then be considered by the Executive. The annual report, which was adopted at the meeting of the Council, showed that at the end of last year 375 in-patients and 483 out-patients were being cared for by the Red Cross, and there wore 77 inmates of the four convalescent homes in the Dominion. The expenditure on comforts to exservicemen for the nine months ended December 31st, was £Bl9l. Red Cross nurses were doing valuable educational work in several districts.

The following officers were elected by the Council: President, Sir R. Heaton Rhodes; Vice-Presidents: Sir James Gunson (Auckland), Messrs L. O. H. Tripp (Wellington), and J. A. Flesher (Canterbury), Rev V. G. Bryan King (Otago); Chairman N.Z. Executive, Dr W. E. Collins. Two members from the Council to sit on New Zealand Executive, Alr\Jj Burnett and Airs L. Blundell. cd, but said that while Mr Forsyth was .in control in London, there was no likelihood that any extreme measure would be adopted, which would be detrimental to the trade. ARAHURA STOCK SALE. Alessrs Al. Houston and Co report:— Ar the above sale on Monday our entry consisted of 40 fat sheep and 43 head of fat cattle, which were submitted to ♦the usual attendance of buyers. Com petition was good throughout the sale, ox beef realising from 32s to 35s per hundred good heifer beef 30s and cow beef from 25s to 30s. We sold as follows: —On account of T. Staines 40 fat sheep at 25s 6d. On account of W. A. Jamieson, 1 heifer at £7 ss, 1 at £8 ss, 1 cow and 1 heifer at £7 15s, 2 bullocks at £lO 10s, 2 at £9, 1 cow and 1 heifer at £6 15s, 1 bullock at £9 ss, 1 heifer and 1 cow at £6 2s 6d. On account of E. W. Mills, 11 cow at £7 7s fid, 1 bullock at £8 12s 6d. 2 cows at £7 12s fid, 2 at £7 2s 6d, 1 cow in profit at £4 15s. On account of R. Wilson, 1 cow at £7 10s, 1 at £4, 1 at. £fi 12s fid 1 steer at £7 10s, 1 cow at £6, 1 bull at £2. On account of P. Olsen 3 bullocks at £9 15s, 2 heifers at £9 2s 6d, 2 at £8 7s 6d, 1 at £5 17s 6d, 1 at £8 15s, 1 sucker at £5 7s 6d, 2 heifers at £7 3s 6d. On account of W. Bond, 1 stag at £3 10s, 2 cows at £4 k 2s 6d.
