INDUSTRIALISTS WANT A FREE I HAND. (Aus & N.Z. Cable Assn & Sun Cable) LONDON, February 24. It is most important that beam wireless should be developed to the utmost extent, in ..the interest of cheap and rapid communications, says the Federation of British Industries in a letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Postmaster General, i nconnection with the Wireless-Cable Conl ferenee, but the Federation fears the Conforenc may result in a policy of hampering elit development of wire less or preventing the reducing of wireless rates. The Federation trusts the Government will give an assurance that nothing will be done to hamper the fullest development of wireless, and adds that as important users of i wireless and cables as taxpayers, the Federation strongly urges the Government to entrust, to commercial hands the Government operated systems, as it would ‘wipe out the deficits and improve the services. The wireless Conference has been sitting daily for the purpose of speed-ing-up a decision to enable the delegates to return the evidence is completed, and the sole regaining task is to agree to recommendations upon which the Conference at present is at variance. The Australians and New Zealanders j are united insisting on two main principles. Firstly that there still be no increase in rates, ajid secondly that the maintenance of Government supervision. It is understood that. Britain sympathises with this attitude, but the others are not certain.
