LONDON MARKET PRICES. The following is a copy of a cable received by Messrs Dalgety and Coy, | Ltd, Greymouth, from their London office, dated 13th January, 1928:— | Butter. —Market steady at present prices. We quote Danish 172 s to 174 s (182 s to 184 s), N.Z. finest salted 154 s to 158 s (160 s to 1645), Australian finest salted 150 s to 154 s (156 s to 160 s), unsalted 156 s to 158 s (164 s to 1665), G.A.Q. 144 s to 148 s (150 s to 1545). Cheese. —Market quiet. We quote N.Z. white 89s to 91s (92s to 945), N.Z. coloured 89s to 90s (92s to 945), Canadian spot white and coloured 96s to 102 s (100 s to 102 s). Figures in parentheses are last week’s quotations. Butter imports into the United Kingdom last month totalled 445,000 cwts, as compared with 450,000 cwts for the corresponding period last year. IDENTIFYING THE PIG. WELLINGTON, January 13. Prior to leaving for the North, the Hon. O. J. Hawkcn had a conference with representatives of buyers of pork. The difficulty of identifying the pig intended for export, through all the transactions leading up to shipment, was gone into, and it is understood that the Minister now proposes to jflace before the Cabinet a proposal that a pork subsidy shall be paid per pig for export.

AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH. LONDON, January 14. Dr. Reales, Chief New Zealand Agricultural Service, is leaving for South Africa to-day, thence homeward; after enquiring about agricultural questions of interest to Now Zealand. Since the Agricultural Conference, Dr. Reakes has visited most of the, important research *ijtat'ionss and has also given attention ip fh c study of animal diseases, particularly with reference to dairy cows.
