FLOOD VICTIMS.
APPEAL FOR RELIEF. £28,000 Subscribed. (Received January 12 at 8.40 p.m.) LONDON, January 11. The extent to which the flood havoc gripped the heart of the country is revealed in the spontaneous response to appeals for funds. To-day’s total is £28,000, in less than four days, is beyond the best expectations of the organisers. Contributions are still pouring in from the highest to the lowest. Clothing is arriving from all parts .’■f England, and gifts of furniture and all kinds of articles arc pouring in. The big firms are sending regular supplies of food, and thousands of offers of accommodation for homeless people have been received.
