GUARDS KILLED WITH STEEL MINE-MANAGER’S THRILLING STORY. MEXICO CITY, Janpary 10. Charles Barber, an American minemanager, kidnapped on December 17 by bandits, arrived bruised and bloodstained. He tells a thrilling story of his escape. Last Wednesday he heard his guards discussing the proposed execution for Friday, unless the ransom of £3,000, was paid. He leaped upon the guards, armed with a steel rod, and knocked out two. A third seized the. rod, but Barber secured a beer bottle, with which in a desperate struggle he killed the remaining two. Then ho returned to the first two assailants, finished them, and escaped to the bush, whence he spent three days wandering, in a terrible plight.
