Sir Chas. Skcrrett and Miss Skerrett arc visiting the Franz Josef Glacier. 'Captain J. Colville-Cook, of Westport Technical School, is visiting Greymouth. Sergeant MeGlo.ne, who is taking charge of Westport Police Station, arrives there from Otago on Monday. Mr W. T. Penny, Secretary of the Manawatu Pastoral Association and Mrs Penny, are visiting the West Coast. Nurse Mertons has arrived here to take charge of the Plnnket rooms during the absence on holiday of Nurse Spring. Miss A. McKendrv, who underwent an operation recently in Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch, is making good progress, and hopes to leave the institution. in about a week. Mr D. T. Glover, formerly a wellknown Waimangaroa resident and a member of Buller County Council, is at present seriously ill at Dannevirke Hospital. Mr F. Linguard, of the WestportCourt staff, who is being replaced by Mr M. Forman (Greymouth), has been promoted to a vacancy caused by the transfer to Auckland from Westport of Mr F. Lindop. Constables Jackson and Russell, of Constables Jackson and Russell, of Wellington, have been transferred to Nelson to fill the vacancies caused by the removal on promotion of Constables Tocker and O’Neill, who go to Collingwood and Richmond respectively. Mr H. J. Jackson, of the Westport railway staff, who has been promoted to the post of guard at Tuatapere, Southland, after spending over 16 years at Westport, was farewelled by the staff and presented with a travelling bag, attache case, eversharp pencil and an entree dish for Mrs Jackson. Mr and Mrs Jackson left on Tuesday for Southland.

Chief Detective Ward, of Wellington. with Mrs Ward and family, and Miss V. Williams (Whangarei) arrived I here a couple of days ago from South i Westland, after a motor tour lasting a fortnight from Picton to Christchurch. Timaru and South Westland. The Bishop’s first wife died in England soon after his arrival in New Zealand last year. Very Rev. Dr C. Morkane, M.A., Rector of Holy 'Cross Seminary, Mosgiel, Otago, and formerly of Kumara, arrived in Christchurch on Tuesda.v after visiting Europe and the Holy Land, and attending at Rome the tercentenary celebrations of the Collegio de Uropaganda Fide where he studied and was ordained manv vears ago. Lieutenant John R. Moncrieff, the leader of the Tasman Sea flight expedition, was born in 1898 at Lerwick in the Shetland Islands, and came to New Zealand in 1914. He was employed up till the time of the flight by the A.B.C. Motors, a Wellington firm. He learned his trade as a motor engineer, and after enlisting in 1917 he went through a course in aviation at the Wigram Aerodrome, Christchurch. Subsequently he went to England, where, after further instruction, he qualified as a flying officer just before the end of the war. After going through a further twelve months’ course of instruction he returned to New Zealand in 1920. Lieut. Moncrieff, who belongs to the New Zealand Air Force, went through his annual refresher course at the Wigram Aerodrome.
