WAIUTA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr and Mrs 11. A. Ord are spending a holiday in Wellington. Miss M. Cameron (Wellington), who has been spending her holidays hen*, returned by Tuesday morning’s express. Miss L. Blomquist (Empire Hotel) left on Tuesday morning en route for Gisborne, where she will in future reside. Messrs J. Connors and E. J. Lewis, who have been spending a holiday in Auckland, returned home on Monday evening. Mr George Crossman was the victim of a nasty accident on Monday morning. While cycling along the Blackwater Road on his return to Waiuta, his machine collapsed. Mr Crossman sustained a broken wrist and bruises. He was conveyed by special car to Reefton for medical attention, and is now making satisfactory progress. At the weekly euchre tournament, held in the sample rooms, the ladies’ prize was won by Miss Rita Woolhouse, and Mr R. Taylor annexed the gents’ prize. At a meeting of the Committee of th Public Tennis Club, ladder rules were adopted, and a ladder was drawn up. The President, Mr P. H. Jones, has offered a trophy for combined handicap doubles.

During the week-end it is probable that a friendly match will be played with the members of the Staff Club. The second court of the Staff Tennis Club has received its final dressing of tar, and should be ready for play shortly. The contract for levelling the court was carried out by Mr Don Robertson, while Mr T. R. Hogg supervised the top-dressing. The Club has now two up to date courts. The local School Committee ar? in favour of the establishment of a dental clinic for Reefton and district. Arrangements arc being made with Reefton for the purpose of financing th? same The Waiuta Pigeon Club held two races during the holidays. The fly from Murchison was won by Mr J. Pas coe’s bird, while Mr W. Hepburn’s King of the Mountains won the fly from Nelson. Mr J. Bright’s bird arrived home with several pellets of shot in it. The attention of unscrupulous persons is drawn to the penalty attach cd to molesting or shooting these birds. The’ local Cricket Club played Black ball B at Blackball on Sunday last, and after an exciting game were defeated by the narrow margin of three runs on the first innings. Blackball B batted first, and compiled J 36. Smith 22, Anderson 19, and Cutbush 43, were the principal scorers. Wainta replied with 133 (Cameron 35, Collins 26, A. Malloy 20, O’Donnell 19, and A. Brough 1-f). In bowling, Cameron 2 £<)-• 18, and P. O’Donnell 3 for 11, were best for Waiuta; while Mason, Weband Anderson gave the best performance for Blackball.
