Mr and Mrs Jas. Donnellan returned to Greymouth by the express yesterday. Mr and Mrs Geo. Ashley returned from Christchurch yesterday. Mr W. Pritchard, of Christchurch, arrived yesterday by the express. Mr and Mrs T. Cairney returned to Greymouth yesterday by the express. Miss R. McLean, of Dunedin, is visit ing Greymouth. Mr 11. St. A. Murray, the well known architect, is at present visiting Greymouth. Mj* Geo. DixoJi, of Brunner, who has been undergoing treatment at the Grey River Hospital, has returned to his home. Mr George J. Bone, representing the Union Manufacturing and Agency Co, Melbourne, accompanied by Mrs Bone, is visiting Greymouth. His Worship the Mayor, Mr J. W. Greenslade, and Mrs Greenslade, arrived in Greymouth by yesterday afternoon’s express from Christchurch and 'Sydney. Mr A. S. Dunford is acting as Assistant Locomotive Foreman at present, during the absence on holiday of Mr A. Torrance, who with Mrs and Miss Torrance, is visiting Dundcin. A Nelson message records the death of Mr E. H. Bisley, of the former wellknown firm of Bisley Bros. Deceased for many years was prominent in business and farming circles. He was about 71 years of age. Among the guests at Rcvington’s Hotel are: Miss Lackey (Sydney), Misses Belling and Sinclair (South Australia), Misses McGowan and Fitzpatrick (Auckland), Mr and Mrs Redwood (Wellington), Mr J. Barnes (Christchurch), Messrs Murray (Christchurch), J. Slee (Christchurch).

A press wire states that on the eve of his departure for Greymouth from Woodville on transfer, Adjutant Green, of the Salvation Army, was publicly farewclled, and many eulogistic tributes were paid to his successful term and fine work for the Army at Woodville. Ensign and Mrs Friberg left Greymouth yesterday on transfer to the Invercargill Corps of the Army, and were farewelled at the railway station by a number of the Greymouth Corps.

A press message from Auckland states that the appointment of Mrs N. E, Ferner, and Miss A. E. Jackson, of A-ucklaitd, as special Justices of the Peace, under the Child Welfare Act, is announced. Mrs Ferner is an associate member of the Children’s Court in Auckland, having been appointed in April, 1925, when the Court was constituted in accordance with the provisions of the Act. In that capacity she could sit with the presiding magistrate, but could only tender advice on the cases brought forward. As special Justices, both Mrs Ferner and Miss Jackson will be empowered to preside over the Court when necessary. Miss Jackson recently retired from the position of Matron at the Mt. Albert Industrial Home, after many years’ service.
