Swimming. 100 YARDS RECORD BROKEN. WELLINGTON, January 9. In Saturday’s brilliant weather several hundred people saw the Wellington Swimming Centre conduct the championship trials for the New Zealand Championships team at Rlddiford Baths, Lower Hutt. There were some fine performances, the event of the day coming when W. Cameron (Lyall Bay) established a New Zealand Iresh water record for the hundred yards Which he covered in l 59 2-5 seconds. Two of four time-keepers, who clocked his effort made the. time under this. The diving trial was won by JCameron, with W. Hicks second. VETERAN’S 100 MILE RUN. EROM BATTI TO LONDON. LONDON, January 8. A South. African farmer, Arthur Newton, finished a hundred mile run from Bath to Hyde Park corner, in 862 minutes ten seconds, an amateur record. Ho began running at the age of 40, and since then has run forty-three thousand miles.
