Trotting Notes. ADDINGTON WORK. (By “Original.”) CTTRTSTCTTURCH, January 9. Bold Bill, who was taken to Auckland by Jack Shaw, in company with Jewel Pointer and Amaris, at the conclusion of the National Meeting last August, returned to Christchurch on Saturday. Groat Bingen has lost all form for the present, and he never went right in his training work on the Auckland trip. Tie is to be given a good spell before being got ready for his mile match with Native Chief, which is to be run. at Hie February mooting of the Metropolitan Trotting Club at Addingt on.

Peter the First, who won the two mile trot at Ashburton on Boxing Day, paying over twenty of the best, was duly expected again at Addington last week, but ho failed on both occasions. Nipper was under the care of E. Berry at the Addington meeting of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club, but once again finished well down the track. Berry will hand him over to some other trainer to ha’v’O a go. Anyone who saw Zenith race at Ashburton on Boxing Day should have been on him at Addington last week. At Ashburton, had the Boxing Day Handicap been a mile instead of a mile and a-quartor, Daylight would have been second. Bonny Spec is like an odd trick. She seems to go and do it right when she is paying a good long price. Billy Whizz went two good races at the recent .meeting. All Addington would be glad to see Cliff Tasker win a race with the American-bred pacer. The speedy but unreliable pacing mare Sea Queen, is now trained by J. Mallett. The American-bred horse Brigand was started as a trotter at Addington last week, but he was too sore to be able to show anything like his best. Tie was worked and raced as a pacer previously. Countryman has turned very dirty in both his work and racing. Marshall fin'd of training him, and now L. Curry is Irving his hand at him, but I fancy the result will bo the same. Ouimet is a quick beginner, and stops just as quickly. Bonny Logan can’t see two miles out very well yet when the going is good and the pace is solid. The mud the second day tied her up very quickly. Anyone reading the Addington track notes should have been on Our Lady the first day when she just got beat over the last bit, but paid a stinging good dividend for second. Binscarth was well labelled at Addington, but again missed the bus. Both Pan Yan and High Jinks were a wee bit unlucky in the mile saddle the first day

The ancient Australian pacer, Johnnie Bells, made his reappearance at Addington last week. For over a round In* was well in the fighting line, but he faileq to stay on over the business part of the journey. Rose Audo, who is a full sister to Master Audo, is a speedy trotter, but she wants the going good and firm. She is useless in the mud. She is now trained by E. C. McDermott. The Christchurch horses that competed at the South Wairarapa Trotting Club’s Summer Meeting returned without winning a stake. Logan Chief, who has been a racing disaappointment for some two years, has been sold out of J. J. Kennerley’s stable, Mr J. McKencTry purchasing him, and he will in future be trained by Free Holmes. Acre was well backed by his connections in the mile saddle at Addington, on the strength of a fast trial (mile) run a couple of days before the meeting. They put the money in and left it there. Out of 28 nominated for the Melrose Trot at Ashburton next Saturday, twenty-five of them are off the front. If they all go to the post, it -will mean two lines, and perhaps part of a third.

W. J. Tomkinson has three maidens engaged in the Melrose Trot at Ashburton, Rose Marie, Pageant and Haora nga-Pai. Haerangi-Pai has been lame for some little time, and would most likely not he accepted for. Bell Harold and Trenand are under orders for an early departure for West. Australia to Perth. They both should

be paying’ propositions. Escapade was not brought back from Auckland with the other members of Berry’s team. She will be trained in Auckland in future. Alerton, who led all the way till a few strides from the post in the Ad vance Handicap at Ashburton on Boxing Day, just being beaten by Doris Pointer, and running the one and a-half miles in 3.29, figures in the Selma Trot at Ashburton (2.24 class for a mile) on 36yds. He went the first mile in the Advance Handicap in 2.19. Dundas Boy, who is trained by Roy Berry, figures in both the Melrose and Selma Trots at Ashburton next Saturday, one and a-half and one mile races, off the end in each. He finished very fast in the Westland Handicap, of 124 furlongs, at Greyinouth, and just missed getting Dan Logan by half a length. On his good showing at Ashburton on Boxing Day, when Epigram only beat him by a nose in the Boxing Day Handicap, of II miles, in the last stride,, Harold Burwood paid a royal price l when he won the mile harness race at Addington the first day.
