TRAIN SMASH. In South America. TWENTY-FOUR VICTIMS RECOVERED. ( Aus. and N.Z. Assn, and Sun Cable.) BUENOS AYRES, July 7. Reports show that the wreck casualties are much greater than was first believed. The bodies of 24 victims were recovered to-night. Many cadets from the Chilean Military Academy, en route to Buenos Ayres for the Independence Day celebrations, were killed. Their special collided with the regular passenger train in a fog, which obscured the danger signals. A previous message stated that ten were killed and 30 injured in a train collision at Apateaica, in the Mendoza Province. MOTOR COLLISION. SEVERAL PEOPLE INJURED. (Per Pres* Association.) WELLINGTON, July 8. A collision between a motor car, driven by Wm. Carter, of Grass Street and a car driven by Spencer E. W. Furrell, of Lower Hutt, occurred at the intersection of Molesworth Street and Lambton Quay at 2.30 this morning. Furrell’s machine was turned over on its side. The injured were:— Miss R. Murphy, Sydney Street West cuts about the head and arms; condition not serious. Mrs Hugh Anderson. Molesworth St., broken collarbone: sent home. Max Lemmer, single, of Lov. er Hutt, injuries to head, admitted to Hospital; condition not serious. S. W. Furrell received cuts on his face and head, and after being doctored was able to return home. Mr. and Mrs N. Taylor, Petone, and W. Henderson, carter, minor cuts and bruises. Several others escaped without injurv. Both cars were badly damaged. AUCKLAND, July 8. Kathleen Parkes, 17, is in hospita| with a deep scalp wound and -light fracture of the skull, through being struck by a motor car. WOODVILLE, July 8. A nasty accident occurred yesterday morning, C. A. Bell, blacksmith, tripped and fell over a drain plough, the • right leg being badly cut and the toe and tendons severed. He was taken to the hospital at Pahiatua.
