OPERA HOUSE—MATINEE TO-DAY CONWAY TEARLE IN . i (THE SPORTING LOVER.” It has remained for E. M. Asher's First National picturisation of “The Sporting Lover,” starring Conway Tearle, at the Opera House at the Matinee to-day and again to-night, to provide the most unique romantic- setting of the year. ‘‘The Sporting Lover” deals with wartime romance and racehorses, and Mr Tearle, as Captain Terrance Connaughton, finds his ideal of a wife in Barbara Bedford, as Lady Gwendolyn, amid the chaos of a battle front air raid. The foundation of their romance is built amid the ruins of a field hospital, where the couple realise their great love while fighting for life buried beneath piles of earth tossed over them by bursting bombs, It is believed that the romantic scenes from Mr Tearle’s starring Vehicle possesses the most dramatic climax yet seen in a war play. THURSDAY ONLY—ELINOR GLYN’S “SOUL MATES.” If you loved a man, but thought he wanted to marry you because he wanted your money, would you marry him? Such is the situation that confronts Ailecn Pringle in Jack Con-way’s production (of Elinor Glyn/.s ‘'Soul Mates,”' the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer picture coming to the Opera House tomorrow night (Thursday). Conway has brought this famous Glyn novel to the screen with all its romance, drama and doinedy, retaining the spirit of the original in every scene. Iler vivid attractiveness makes her a figure of great interest to the audience. Miss Pringle handles the role with an extreme delicacy of feeling, yet with an assurance that accentuates her fine acting. “Soul Matres” has been produced in an elaborate fashion, and with the great attention to detail that is customary with Motro-G oldwyn-Mayer pictures.
