DOMINION CRICKETERS.
Commenting on the win of the New Zealand cricket team over Sussex, a correspondent “Pleased,” states: — “Critics appear to be too ready to minimise the New Zealand cricket team’s performance against Sussex by pointing out that three players—Tate, Bowley, and Dulcepsinjhi—did not play, and the ex-England captain, A. E. R. Gilligan, did not bowl. Let me take these one by one. Duleepsinjhi, for a start, is not available for county matches, until the University season is over. Tate may have strained a muscle or may simply be resting. In any case, no doubt the New Zealanders will have to face him when they play an English eleven at the end of the tour. “Bowley, I think, may be fairly excused for not appearing against his adopted country. As for Gilligan, exEngland captain though he is, he is not a great bowler, and probably, when he saw his other bowlers being trounced, he decided not to attempt the impossible. ’ ’
