THE BARRIER REEF
ZOOLOGISTS COMING. To Study in Australia. (Received April 8 at 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 8. For tho purpose of more closely studying the biological reasons for the ebullition of organic life causing the Great. Barrier Reef of Australia, Mr F. A. Potts, Lecturer on Zoology at Cambridge University, is endeavouring to form an expedition of scientists. Personally, he, hopes to go to Australia at the end of June, and his companions, will leave a fortnight later. The personnel of the expedition has not yet been decided on, but Mr Potts hopes to get the services of all the foremost men, some of whom may have difficulty in getting leave.
Mr Potts’s plans provide for establishing his headquarters at Cairns, in North Queensland, with a camp on a nearby island. He will be using a chartered forty-ton motor boat, capable of carrying trawls and nets. The expedition will have the advice and help of Professor Richards, of Brisbane, and also the practical experience of Mr Potts, who was himself a membell of the Murray Island Expedition in 1913. A committee headed by Sir M. Nathan (ex-Governor of Queensland) is assisting the organisation.
