HECTOR BOLITIIO’S FIRST ROMANCE. Mr. Hector Boiitho, the New Zealand writer who first wrote the story of the Prince of Wales’ tour iu this country, is to have his first novel published in London in January. It is caller “Solemn Boy” and the background, in opening in the little East Coast town of Opotiki and then moving to Aucklam , Sydney ami the South Sea Islands. Messrs. Cliatto Hindus, who published the novel are very enthusiastic, about it the picture Mr. Boiitho has given ot tne antipodean life. Mr. Boiitho has written u s tory with great tenderness in the theme, literary quality iu the style of writing and an entirely new charactei as far as the description ot the antipo dcs ar e concerned, report the publishers in their announcement. Mr Boiitho traces the story oi a - Zealand born boy in a small town, under colonial influences, and his .-ey in coming into contact with first the life of Auckland and then the still more sophisticated atmospheie.
