WHANGAREI LOAN POLL. WHANGAREI, December 9. The Borough Council submitted to ratepayers, loan proposals totalling £17,950. The proposal to raise £ll, for a new electricity transmission line was rejected, and the remainder carried. LIGHTHOUSES FOR MOTORS. AUCKLAND, Dee. 9. Flashing lighthouses at intervals or every two miles, to guide motorists on country roads at night, has bei a suggested by the North Island Motor Union, but the Auckland Automobile Association opposes the erection of lighthouses with advertising propensities, the opinion being expressed at last night’s meeting that tho object was to make motorists read ihe advertisements at danger points wheithe driver’s attention should not be distracted from the road. The chairman said they had their own signs throughout the province, and by the use of spotlights, they could be seen quite ' GU-r " ‘ ULTRA-VIOLET RAYS IN DEMAND. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 8. Ultra violet ray apparatus was installed at Christchurch Public Hospital last September, and so much work has been done with it that it has been found necessary to build a special room for it. Tubercular diseases of bones and skin diseases are being treated, and so far the results have been very satisfactory. YACHTING. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 9.
