WHERE IS RURU?

A POSER EOR HIS HONOUR. Where is Ruru.* That was a question that His Honour, Air .Justice Alpers, had Io ask at least a dozen times during the hearing of a civil action at the Supreme Court las; night. A sketch plan of the locality concerned in the action had been submitted to His Honour, who endca \’our_ cd to ascertain whether or. not there was a fence on both sides of a tramway line shown on the plan. No one seemed to know if there was a fence on one (let alone both) sides of the line. Several of the witnesses wore anything - but sure OwtTie point, and His Honour had occasion to remark to one witness that “As you have lived in the locality all your lite, 1 thought perhaps you might know. His Honour then endeavoured to find out for himself, and asked witnesses and counsel where Ruru was. But Ruru (as far as the plan was concerned ) appeared to be a mythical place, for His Honour’s questions regarding it had to go unanswered. It was clearly a case of groping in the dark, and His Honour described it ns such, until - the man who drew the sketch was called in 10 the assistance of tin* Court. Ultimately it was pointed out where, on the plan. Ruru lay. It was also ascertained that the terne over \vhich the trouble arose was m> fence at all.
