THE REFEREE QUESTION. (To the Editor). Sir,- —Would you be good enough to allow me space in your paper to say a few words re the above question. In the Soccer match at Millerton yesterday between Denniston and Millerton Thistle, I was disgusted to hear an exreferee pf the Buller district “slinging mud” at Mr Hewitson’s decision, more especially the penalty kick. Tlis voice could be heard all over the field. 1 think ex-Rcferec was watching the game through a pair of black and white spectacles, but he might take off his specs at times and see some good points about some of the referees. 1 would like to ask ex-referee whv he gave up the whistle, and, if he is the only one who knows the rules of the game, why he does not den the sweater again and give the present referees a lesson. There is no doubt he has plenty of wind with which to blow the whistle. In conclusion, I would say if Mr Ilewitson had been as one-sided in his opinions as ex-referee was yesterday, he would have been liable to get mobbed. I would ask ex-referee in future to give honour where honour is due, as perhaps he might have to change his colour next season again. In speaking of another’s faults, Pray, don’t forget your own. Remember, those with homes of glass, Should never throw a stone. I’ll tell you of a better plan (Y r ou’ll see it works full well) To find and cure your own defects Ere others faults you tell. I am, etc, PENALTY KICK.
