WAIUTA NOTES.
(Our own Correspondent). The local Rugby team met the Pirates on the Recreation Ground last Sunday, and after a keen game, the Pirates were th c winners by 11 points t etiil. For Waiuta, Fitzgerald, Costigan and Herlihy were the pick of the backs, Ward and Dunn in the forwards playing well. Powley (2), Nicholson, and Hindmarsh were the most conspicuous of the Pirate team. Mr Jim Fitzgerald controlled the game, but was rather slow with the whistle. Inangahua seniors defeated Greymouth at Omoto on Sunday last, by 12 points to 10. The game was keenly contested, Clegg, Lynsky, Cutbush, Neilson, Purton and Harris were the pick of the Inangahua team. The juniors once again were defeat ed by Runanga by nine points to 5. The majority of the players are under the impression that they were robbed of the game, as the referee did not give them an impartial hearing. While on the League subject, what Is wrong with the Inangahua Club having a game either at YVaiuta or Blackwater. The Club has had a good deal of support from here, and it is up to them to give tbe public here an opportunity of seeing Now Zealand’s leading game. What about it, Secretary McAlpine? Mr Paul Holmes is on a short visit to Christchurch. Mr Bayne, Mines Department, accompanied by Mr Downey, Inspector of Mines, visited Waiuta on Monday. Waiuta residents are once again reminded of the Benefit Concert to be held in the Hall on Sunday evening, 21st inst.
