MONTHLY" MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Crroy County Council was held yesterday. Mr P. Donnellan presided, and there were also present, 'Crs. J. Irvine, P. Cr. Carter, J. Ry all, H. Gr/r.i.ey D. B.nybutt. J. VV. Tfana-ni, A Bl.nr nri-i k. Robinson. The Treasury Depart ment wrote notifying the payment of £167 10s on behalf of maintenance of the Greymouth to Janies Colliery Road. amount ;n the cstirr/'.t. • On behalf of Mr IT. Marsden, Mr W. J. Joyce applied for permission to construct a tramway at Blackball. Messrs Guinness ain? Kit chingham applied f•- a cncwal of tr.»?. crossings on behalf of Messrs Newman and O’Neill. The applications were granted, subject io the engineer's approval. Regarding the Council’s application thfcit the’ VDepalrtmt'nt should bear the cost of maintenance of the Ngahere Combined Traffic and Railway Bridge, the Minister of Alines wrote stating that the request could not be complied with. From the same source a. letter was 1 received regarding rent due by Mr P. N. Kings Well and authorising a. reduction of 1/6 per acre as requested. Messrs Guinness and Kitchingham •wrote requesting a reduction of too rent due by Lake Hochstetler Goldfields, Ltd. A similar request was received from the TTohonu Sluicing Co. —Both were authorised. The request of the Rev. Douglas Hay for use of Road Reserve between rhe vicarage sections and T. H. Garth’s estate, off Camp Street, Ahaura, wu-s granted. Mr F. W. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Hokitika, returned the Council 7 s uroposals for the expenditure of “Halves and Thirds,” and requesting that tho amount be spent on roads, as specilied. Messrs L. O‘Neill and L. Blundell were appointed council motor drivers, and Mr. W. T. Pickering, of Te Kinga, was appointed roadman at Inchbonnie. A a opinion from Mr. W. J. Joyce, tho council's solicitor, was read regarding draining and water supply at Blackball. This was to the effect that a poll of ratepayers in the district was necessary, the ratepayers concerned being required to bear the cost. —The matter was left in the hands of tin* engineer.
