ANTI-LABOUR PACT

WELLINGTON MAYORALTY. WELLINGTON, April 17. A dillieulty in regard to the Mayoral election iu AVcllington was culminated to-night. The services of Mr A. K. Atkinson were secured as arbitrator, Mr D. G. Clark (Commissioner of Taxes) having declined tin- task. Mr Norwood and Mr Forsyth (candidates) did not attend. They made statements to Mr Clark, who an hour later, gave the verdict as iu favour of Mr Norwood. Mr Forsyth has now withdraym from the Mayoralty. Mr Norwood thus bceoincs the Citizens’ Association candidate, and it will be a straight fight with the labour nominee, Mr C. H. < 'hapman. Th,, feeling is strong that Labour will now bo defeated, although Mr Chapman commands a big following. Mr John Hutcheson at Mr Norwood’s first meeting, held later, announced that Mr Norwood was now tho accredited Citizens’ ehampion, amidst applause.
