RUNANGA NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) For the last week or two Runanga has h: d a good run as far as amusements go. Sunday pictures have re- . commenced, and the company bus been | getting full houses; also Pictures on Tuesdays ami Fridays. The I Snapshots last Wednesday, and the previous Thursday, have heli ’d to fill the programm:'. On \Ve<lneH<ky evening, the Druids i held their wind-up euehre nud dance. There was a good crowd of people pre- j sent. The season's euchre |.ri/.''s we:'' awarded to -Mrs Glover and Muster I', j Fisher. The usual nightly prizes wer? ■ won by Mrs W. I’arsontige and -Mr .1. ' J 1 igson. Some very good work has .just been completed on the Runanga Tennis Court . by Mr M. O'Grady. The ground bord- . ering the court has been levelled off. and ashes scattered and rolled on the top of the soil. It is a decided advantage for playing members, and the Club are to be congratulated in c®.Tying out the work. The tennis season opened on October 1. so it behor es ail enthusiasts to roll along and pay their small subscription. Last Sundry a large crowd gathered at the Seven -Mile Ground in order to witness the Cup linal of the Junior Competition between btunanga and Blackball. The game was very disappointing, the local boys not playing their usual good game. Mr Hopkins refereed. 'To-night, Runanga residents will have tin’ opportunity of hearing an address by “Pussyfoot” Johnson. The residents will doubtless give him a fair hearing, if they are not a “dry” e rowd. On Sunday, a Soccer match will be plaved at the Seven Alile, the proceeds in aid of the Runanga Band Contest. As it is for the West Coast championship, and the proceeds arc going to a worthy cause, a large crowd is expected to assemble. ’The State Mines were idle on Wednesday and Thursday owing to the bins being full and lack of shipping. However, they resumed work yesterday morning. A very well-known resident of Runanga, Air F. E. O'Flynn, is going to leave us shortly. He has been transferred to the Heathcote School, C: nterbury. I was informed to-day that, at a meeting held to consider giving him a farewell, it has been decided to hold a social and dance on Labour Night, October 23. If this night is conveni ent, there will no doubt be a record gathering to farewell such a man, who has done so much for the district. On Wednesday evening next the Run anga W.E.A. class, combined with the Greymouth W.E.A. class, are holding a farewell social at Runanga for Mr F. E. O’Flynn. One or two eases of diptheria lu:ve been notified in Runanga during the last few days.
