AUSTRALIAN RECORDS. | (Rec. Octob*’? 12, 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 12. The Seismograph at Riverview recorded an earthquake shock, but it was too indistinct to loca'A, the exact position. Apparently it is a big desturbanee about eight thousand miles distant. ADELAIDE. October 12. A fairly severe earthquake was felt at Alorphett Vale. It lasted three seconds, making the houses creak. No damage was done. The shock was proceeded by a heavy rumbling sound, and followed by a brief rain squall.

AN AUCKLAND ARREST. AUCKLAND. October 12. The police to-night, armed with a search warrant, visited the residence, in Grey Street, of Thomas Nelson Mellors, aged about 35, suspected of being connected with the recent circulation of counterfeit, coins. Mellors, who occupies portion of an appartment house ( in Grey Street, is stated to have been ' discovered in the act of making coins. • He was arrested. About fifty coun- ! terfeit half crowns and florins, and live moulds for making these coins, and shillings, together with the constituents of coins, were discovered on the premises, which Mellors had occupied for j about six months.
