THE NEAR EAST.

CRUCIAL POINT. THE NEUTRAL ZONES. LONDON, October 11. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Constantinople correspondent says: The crucial point of the military convention is believed to be the Turkish respect for the neutral zones. The categorical acceptance by Turkey will be insisted upon, as the continued filtration of troops such as has been occurring during the last week endanger the position of the British forces. The exact limits of zones as laid down by General Herington are not known, but will probably lie within the boundaries of zones as proclaimed in 1921. EXPECTED DENIAL. STRAITS NOT BLOCKADED. LONDON, October 11. The Foreign Office has sent a Note to Russia, stating that inquiries show no commercial blockade of the Straits by Britain exists, as alleged by Russia. WILL U.S.A. BE INVITED? HINTS EROM PARIS. LONDON, October 11. Advices from Washington state that despatches from Paris contain more than a hint of the intention to invite the United States to participate in tho Near East Conference. Provided the administration is assured of the support of the country, it is believed it would *be willing to send a representative, on the understanding that he participates only in the discussion on the freedom of the Straits, his presence not implying any obligation ot the United States to share administrative measures.
