GUNSON GOES OFF. OUR NAVY INFECTED. CHATHAM QUARANTINED. AUCKLAND, October 11. The District Health Ofnce states that aboard the Chatham there are a few cases of mild influenza. The warship is going to a quarantine anchorage to-morrow morning as a precautionary measure. Since October Ist there have been fifteen cases of sickness aboard, not all of influenza, as three or four cases had pneumonia, one case of pneumonia following influenza. The Mayor Mr J. H. Gunson telegraphed to Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister of Health: “I am concerned at the revival of pneumonic influenza. There are several’ cases in the city and district. As these arc not notifiable the Health Office is not in a position thoroughly to be posted to stop a more serious position through cases entering the port by shipping. I understand there are a number of cases on the Chatham. I earnestly ask you not to allow these cases to land, but to require them to go to Quarantine Island, f would like Dr. Frengley to come to Auckland to investigate the position with Dr. Hughes, in whom we have confidence. In view of the local cases and other matters reported, together with the outbreak in Australia, we consider it our duty to place the matter before you, and assure you ot the fullest co-operation. The public should be advised and realise the position to ensure adequate safeguard? and personal care.” Mr Gunson, in his statement says there is no need for alarm, but thr public should be warned.
